i've been reading a lot lately - i'm not sure when this came about and what possessed me to actually get to the ends of books (i'm notorious for starting and not finishing books), but it's been nice. i haven't been this into books since i was in elementary school. 6th grade, in fact, which was right about when i discovered math. actually, i think i can pinpoint my turn from the joy of reading to starting kumon.
for some reason, i appear to be the only kid that ever liked kumon. i think it's because my teacher was awesome. mrchoi. i wonder what he's up to now.
regardless - i just finished this book called the_overachievers. fascinating yet entertaining insight into the overachiever culture created amongst teens in america - and basically, how our parents screw us up. i feel like she could have written a character about me, though i feel that sort of stress caught up with me later in life.
when i look at these high school kids go crazy and try to help them deal with it, i just don't remember high school being that hard. either because things were easier back then, or kids are more dramatic now, or parents are pushing their kids beyond their potential (not uncommon), or...because MIT whooped my butt so badly i don't remember anything else as having been difficult.
but this book was well-researched and brought up a lot of flaws and potential ... not solutions ... but suggestions to alleviate the ridiculousness that exists today. thoroughly enjoyed it. gave me a springboard for my book in progress.
anyways. i'm very close to finishing the_tipping_point and about halfway through blink.
i think there should be an asian_american_christian version of "he's just not that into you". in fact, i'll start here.
-he's just not that into you if you lead a small group and he doesn't join your group
-he's just not that into you if you invite him to come watch your game and he doesn't come.
this list will be ongoing. this could get interesting.
