crazy parents

Wow parents can be CRAZY. Dealing with neurotic ones is no fun. NO FUN. I hate confrontation as it is, but having to tell some overprotective overreacting parents that they were out of line? Oof. I swear Sabs sit around and think of things for me to do that are maximally painful and then sit back and watch the monkey dance. Mmph.

Notes on parenting...

1) Do not live vicariously through your child - If you want medals and acclaim and perfection - then strap on a dobok and do it yourself. Let the kid enjoy what they're doing.

2) Let your child know it's OK to lose - goodness gracious these parents wanted gold medals more than their kid did. The kid understood perfectly well that it wasn't the end of the world. The parents - not so much. This is how we get psycho parents who make excuses because they can't accept that their child is not perfect.

3) Your child is NOT SPECIAL - not any more than any other child, and to monopolize a teacher's time and energy. So get over it. Before I strap a "NOT SPECIAL" bumper sticker to the kid's forehead to help you remember.
